My Heart Says Thank You!

Hello Friends! I am back again with my first card of the year 2011. Hope you like it..... may be!!! Just wanted to make it as simple as possible. I want to say “Thank You” to everyone who made the last year beautiful , inspiring and happy for me. White is perfectly delicate in look & feel.... experimenting this snow white color this time. I am entering my card in these challenges -

My Handmade Wall-Hanging!

So the mega weekend plan came out to be a lovely piece of wall-hanging! Here is something special I want to share with you. This is not the first time I have tried my hand here, but certainly the first one I’m presenting in my blog. Wondering what is it, how it’s created, materials, inspiration and so on? Well, let me introduce with the art form.

It’s a form of appliqué work known as “Pipli work”; because of its origin from a small place called “Pipli” in India. A combination of colorful cotton clothes, fine needle work, sequins, laces and tiny mirror pieces give it a stunning look! There is no restriction to patterns, size and shape. But the choice of colors & designs need to be pre-planned, else it’ll mar the charm. You know what I do? Before cutting anything I make a soft copy.... simple!

This wall-hanging took one week to be completed for the central & outline needle work. Of course I can’t spend my whole day with this, because there are lot more thing to be done...well I love to do this!

What do you think is more precious- food or jewelry?

Well, you may try to find out your answer here! Food can not be made out of jewelry, but a very attractive neckpiece is possible through food grains. Here is one; the Hunger designed by Kali Arulpragasam. This party-wear designer necklace is a created over things we can never imagine! Trust me friends, it is composed of sweet corn, bean, lentils and rice. Yah, now you can distinguish the grains from the familiar shapes & sizes. The total weight is some 360gms of stuff. Quite heavy for your delicate neck! But I think one can happily bear the burden, when it’s the matter of such a nice jewelry.

Often we have seen that vegetables are beaded and decorated for the hot fashion shows. Oh’ how funny that looks! If you can recall, sometimes wearing eatables are found in the protest against rising prices of food…. I can’t ignore it completely, for Kali seems to have been inspired from all these – in the eyes of extreme poverty, food is much more precious than gold and silver.
